Cut out a part of image out
Hey..

This is hard to explain but is there any way that you can cut a part of an image out, I know theres crop but is there a way that you can cut any shape out if you know what I mean. Then be able to copy it and paste it in another image or save it on a transparent background for websites and stuff.
If theres any free software or anything then that would be usful.
I currently use macromedia fireworks 8 and The gimp 2

Thanks

You can do it in Gimp. When you cut something out you “select” it. And there are many ways to do that. This lists Gimp’s selection tools with examples: http://mercury.chem.pitt.edu/~sasha/...ticle119.shtml

You need photoshop my friend!

It has a neat 'Lasso' tool. You can select any part of a picture in any shape you're capable of drawing.

Some editors. like Focus Photoeditor, have a selection tool that allows you to paint the interior of the part you want to cut out. It's called a "paint selection tool".

If you want to cut out an object that has different colors than its surroundings, some photo editing programs have a "magic wand" function to select an adjustable color range.

You can repeatedly use the wand to select sections of the desired object and then copy it to another layer or another picture file.

Sometimes it is easier to use the wand to select the undesired background items and delete them, leaving the desired object.

“Selection” is the graphics term for cutting something out. After you select it you can apply stuff just to that part, move just that part to another image or inverse the selection and hit the Delete key to have only what you have selected left on the screen.

Everything that has been mentioned is available in Gimp. It has a lasso, magic wand, shaped selection tools, and masks to paint or refine a selection. Gimp will do that as well as anything and you don’t need more software just for that task.
