Paint.NET
Hi, I just downloaded Paint.net, to use for putting text on images. I was using the ACDSee that came with windows, but it started locking up every time I tried to use it, so I removed it. I had a play with Paint.net, put some text on an image, but when I tried to save it, the whole page was saved, not just the image. Is there a step I missed out on ? When you apply a label using ACDSee, you hit the "done" button, then "file", then "save as" and just the image itself is saved. Anyone know how to save the labeled image ? Thanks, Mickmac

Couldn't you just use MSpaint for this.

You can do basic Image editing like you want to. If all you want to do is add some text to a file then Mspaint would work just fine.

I've heard about Paint.net .. and just gave it a try.
I had no Problem with adding a Label, Cropping, Resizing ...
then saving as (a jpeg) .. Quality 85% .. etc ...

Not sure what you mean by the "Whole Page" .. and not just the Image.

You might want to replace the bloated ACDSee with the freeware Irfanview ..
http://www.irfanview.com/
Irfanview is very Popular here at TSG ... There'll be no shortage of help with it.

I use Irfanview as my system Default Viewer and Editor, replacing Windows Image n Fax Viewer.
Irfanview can add text, but it looks like Paint.net can do some more editing that Irfanview can't.

Evidently Mickmac can bring a page of images into ACDSee. Then put text on one of them and save it individually. Paint.NET is an image editor and doesn’t work that way. Irfanview doesn’t either.

ADCSee doesn’t come with Windows. It might have been installed by the computer maker. More likely it installed with the software from a camera, scanner or some other imaging device. You might want to find the CD and reinstall it. Sometimes an uninstall and reinstall fixes problems.

Otherwise you are going to have to change your workflow to open individual images and add text.

Irfanview and Paint.NET both have advantages. With Irfanview you can hit the T key after you open an image and you get thumbnails of the entire folder of images. You can select from there to open full screen and add text.

Paint.NET will put the text on a layer so you can make fine adjustments to exactly where you want it.

You can take advantage of both by setting Paint.NET as your default editor in Irfanview. That way you can use the thumbnail page from Irfanview and open the image from there directly in Paint.NET with a right click on the thumbnail. That is how I usually work with Photoshop.

You can make the thumbnails larger in Irfanview under Options on the thumbnail page.

There is a new, plugin for IrfanView called IrfanPaint.
It was created by one of the many users of the main, IrfanView program. It was created with the help of the developer of IrfanView, Irfan Skiljan.

IrfanPaint gives some interesting and missing image editing functions to the great IrfanView program.

The IrfanPaint plugin is Beta, and still going through user trials, and as such it requires a change of one of the instrumental parts of the IrfanView installation. It isn't hard to do, but for now, the inclusion of the plugin is not yet automated.

You can read the instructions at: http://www.mitalia.net/irfanpaint/

Thanks Chuck ... Irfanview just keeps getting better.
I don't see any (additional) Text tools yet.

I am not sure where ACDSee came from, I just assumed it was something to do with Windows. My wife has it on her computer as well. I have Panasonic Lumix installed on my computer, the driver came with my camera, maybe it was part of that. Irfanview sounds interesting, will have a look at that. Thanks for the responses, Mickmac

Yeah, the add text function is not in the IrfanPaint yet. But there is a clumsy text function already in the usual selections of IrfanView.

What I have set up in all my installs of IrfanView is the default external image editor (see Options>Misc. 2) as MSPaint. Which has a fairly useful Text function. Not the best, but adequate for me.

In time I would assume that the IrfanPaint plugin will add that function.

Irfanview's about the same as ACDsee without all the bloat.
I've read that the more ACDSee tries to add functions to get you to buy a newer Version .. The worse it gets.
Maybe this'll help you get started with Irfanview ... http://2noyb.home.insightbb.com/

Holler if we can help.
