Have both opened and maxamized, right-click once on the taskbar (blank space between Start button and right end by clock), menu appears select "Tile Windows Vertically" or horizontally and voila!

When you're done, do the same but select "Undo tile" and you're set.

You could also try a dual pane file manager like Xplorer2 or, if an ugly GUI doesn't put you off, Total commander.

The Tiling, as described by idowindows, will tile all the opened windows, which may not be exactly what the user wants. If more than the two windows wanted are already opened, and the user only wants just those two windows tiled, then you can select one of the Taskbar buttons for that window, then hold down Ctrl and then click on any additional other associated Taskbar button for those other windows (which "adds" them to the selection). Then right-click over any one of the already selected Taskbar buttons and chose the desired [Tile ...] selection.

The [Undo Tile] command will only appear IF the user has already tiled ALL the windows. It does not appear if you have just selectively tiled less than all of the windows.
