Arrow saving pictures causes software to hang
I'm using an HP 1315 all in one, which has finicky software to begin with, but when I try to save a scan with high resolution it just freezes up completely and I have to shut down the computer by unplugging it. So I have 2 questions: 1) How do I allot more memory to the HP and other imaging programs? (I have several crapware programs, no major league software for graphics) 2) If I were to get a graphics product like Photoshop, can it do my scanning & copying tasks in place of this frustrating HP program? Thanks, V

Unless you are scanning film or slides there is no reason to scan at higher than 300 PPI for photos. You can scan B&W for text at 600 PPI and it will help removing aliasing – sometimes called jaggies. But 1 bit B&W scans at 600 aren’t enormous like color. http://scantips.com/resolut.html

Most programs use the scanner driver. XP also has a WIA driver that might work better for you. Download the free Irfanview at www.irfanview.com For file associations when installing check “Images Only”. If you don’t like using Irfanview you can always change it back.

Open Irfanveiw and File > Select TWAIN Source. Try the WIA driver and then File > Acquire.
