Go to Start >> Programs >> Accessories .... find Scanner n Camera wizard.

Does it see your scanner and allow you to scan ???

Welcome to the TSG forum .... and do you have Irfanview by any chance ??

I understand.
HP makes good hardware but their software stinks ... and you don't have to use it.

I don't use HP's software for my HP Scanner.
Try the Scanner n Camera wizard as I suggested.
This will tell us if your Scanner Twain driver is installed .. or not.

What the model number of your HP Scanner ???

HP psc 1200 Printer Scanner All In one
I don't use HP's software for my HP Scanner.
Try the Scanner n Camera wizard as I suggested.
This will tell us if your Scanner Twain driver is installed .. or not.

I tried this. However, I am trying to scan on the flat scanner that is part of the All In One. What hardware do you use?

Respectively,

Geyna

I agree with Noyb, I have an HP all-in-one scanner/printer and NEVER use the HP software that came with it.

As Noyb has said, you do not have to use the software when you use Windows XP, in most cases.

Just follow Noyb's instructions, and ignore the HP software altogether, Windows XP itself should be able to work the scanner just fine assuming the fault you presently have is not actually in the scanner.

I have a HP PSC 1610xi All-in-One Printer/Scanner ....
And the HP software for this scanner has messed up my last two HP computers.
I've spent several hours on the phone and Email with HP .. The only thing they did was give me a HP Image Zone removal tool.

Your going to have two choices ...
1) .. Fix the HP software.
2) .. Learn to run your Computer/Scanner without using the HP software.
Choice 2 seems to be the best fix, but we can try both.

I need to know if the XP Scanner n Camera wizard could detect you scanner and acquire a scan

I also need to know the Model number of your HP All-in-One in order to see what software you might need.

I hate to break up the harmony but I disagree with our gurus on this one. You should have the HP driver software installed on your computer. The Windows WIA scanner driver is primitive and not as capable as the HP driver. The driver Windows loads for the printer is also very limited compared to the HP driver. There are buttons on the unit that don’t usually work without the software. And some are handy if you want a quick copy for instance.

Uninstall the software from add/remove programs in Control Panel. I would make sure all reference to the unit is removed from Printers and Faxes, Scanners and Cameras and the System > Hardware > Device Manager folders.

Then download and install the latest driver from HP.

YES .. That's why I asked for the AIO Model number ... so I could point to the latest basic software needed.

It's my understanding that the Scan n Cam wizard won't work unless the Basic HP software is loaded which includes the HP Twain Driver .. Used by the Windows WIA scanner.
That's why I wanted to know if Scan n Cam worked.

And Many Thanks for calling me a Guru .. got you fooled.
Stay tuned, you may be needed

HP All In One Printer-Scanner PSC 1210 xi
I really appreciate all of your help. However, I have had problems with Add-Remove once before, listening to HP techs; giving me advice that contradicted each other. One sent me an HP Scrubber. I was supposed to use that before I did Add Remove and then do a new complete installation. I have tried this 2 times in the past week. When I try to execute the HP Director (desktop shortcut) it just will not work. I am so tired and aggravated with HP, but cannot go out and purchase a new printer-scanner. So, the bottom line is I will probably take my laptop down to The Geek Squad and let them clean up my entire computer and start from square one. I live in San Diego...any good ideas?

If you've updated to Internet Explorer 7 ... HP director may not work.
I'd assume HP would have a fix for this by now .. And would have told you about it.
I'm surprised HP remembered they had a HPIZ scrubber.
I lost it once .. and took me forever to get HP to send me a new one.

Have you tried to use XP's Scanner n Camera wizard yet ???

Personally .. I wont allow HP Image Zone in my HP computer(s).
I use the freeware Irfanview to replace M$ Image n Fax viewer, Image Zone ..
and to run my HP scanners.

Notes about this are at the bottom of this page ...

Whoops .. Just noticed your model number.
I see HP has a fix for IE7 ... If that's your problem.

Did HP have you load all the fixes and latest software from here ..
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=90767&lang=en

If you don't follow the instructions during the install (such as when to turn ON the Scanner) .. Goofy things can happen.

If you think you're mad at HP .. check back after you see the Geek Squad.

HP Printer Scanner
Thanks, guys for all your suggestions. I finally reached an HP supervisor and he was kind enough to walk me through the installation. I am not sure how it is going to work. I am saving all of your posts.

I will be back for 3 other problems I KNOW you guys can help me with. Otherwise, my husband is going to throw me and my computer out the window. We live 14 story's up. LOL
