Question Digital Camera
I am considering 2 camera's. Each one having a difference in Meg's and Zoom.

Kodak 12 mp with 5x zoom
Pentax 8 mp with 7 internal zoom

Kodak sales team outstandingly claims that undoubtedly 12 mp's are utmost important and no one has 12 like them and their's is the BEST.

Pentax claims that it's all in the zoom.

So, am I better off with which one.
The photo's taken shown by the sales team do look better with the kodak. I have a kodak now, 5 mp.

So who's right and which is better?
thanks

Hi Angelsmcc

I recently purchased a digital camera myself, and when checking reviews etc., I found various sites which check out and compare various cameras etc. of similar type.

This one really put them through the hoops, so I hope you can find the ones you are considering here: http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/

Could you give us the full name of each camera or a link to the manufacturer's page about it?

Kodak Easyshare Z1275
-12MP is huge
-5x Zoom is pretty nice
-Since the Kodak is 4MP more, you can crop the images and they are still large.
-Records HD video at 30fps!
-Kodak's are very easy to use.
-Image Stabilizer
-No Viewfinder
-Uses AA batteries
-Bad reviews...

Pentax Optio Z10
-8MP
-7x zoom is great
-High resolution display
-Image Stabilization
-Bad review

I think 12mp dont give you a much bigger print size than 8mp.If your looking for more zoom the pentax would maybe be the way to go.I personally use a canon rebel xti.im no expert on the subject.Hope this helps some.

One of the best sites on the web is ........... http://www.steves-digicams.com/

I suggest you start looking at Canon or Nikons.

I agree that canon and nikons are great leaders in the camera biz in my opinion.

I think the Pentax would be the better camera but neither are that good. If you are completely new to digital photography, try looking at a different Kodak. Otherwise I would look at the Canons.

Of those two, I prefer the Pentax. When looking for a pocket camera, I like them small. I already have big digital SLR's with monster lenses. The Pentax has a lens that doesn't pop out. That's one less mechanism that can get bumped and broken. It's also far smaller, and easier to carry. A camera that you have with you takes better pictures than the camera that's at home or in the car.

As far as the reviews, goodness is relative. Both are better than two cameras I bought two years ago. After you get about 5MP, you have enough pixels to do snapshot prints and an occasional 8x10. A 19" monitor only has 1440 pixels, so you can only view part of the Kodak 4000 pixel image at full size. On the other hand, for cropping and larger prints, yes, more pixels is good. The tradeoff with more MP is more image noise, but this matters most when lighting is poor and most owners get unuseable shots in this situation anyway irrespective of noise. I'd say that both will do OK for drugstore prints in good light. The Pentax flash won't be bright enough for some indoor pictures. The Kodak will be sharper because it has a better lens.

Finally, cameras do not last forever. These things are going to break on you. Don't obsess over a two hundred dollar appliance. It will be on sale at half the price in a year anyway. Buy something and you will be looking at something else in two-three years. At these prices, that amortizes to less than $10/month.

P.S. I'd suggest the Canon SD1000. Around $160. It has the extruding lens though.

another thing to consider is what do you want to use the camera for. one thing i use my canon S3 and Kodak Z710. for is for the zoom. because i like taking pictures of animals in my yard and at the park. and i have a Nikon L3 for a point and shoot camera. the L3 is 2 years old. and i plan on looking for a new point and shoot. after the holidays. and i plan on getting a Kodak C513 for my step daughter. it will be her first camera. so i ain't buying a expensive one for here at first. and this is a good starter camera
