Is it a layered image?

I was using the trial version of X2 and saved a layered pspimage and then went back to my PSP10 on another machine and I couldn't open it either--something about not recognizing it so I had the notion that the developers have done something to the file format settings in the layers with X2 and that they are not compatible with version 10 or earlier. I was wondering if it had something to do with the style effects but I can't remeber if it was an image that I made those changes to or not. I only know for sure that it was a layered pspimage with at least some semi-advanced effects applied.

So I'm wondering if you can flatten the image without destroying it's intent or save it maybe as a intermediate filetype that both will recognize. I was thinking .psd but that's no gaurantee it will work either because it might not be compatible saving in .psd format any longer either.

Yes, my trial ran out and I said to myself, hey, if X2 is going to pull that kind of "stuff" then I'm going to stick with PSP10.

Sorry for saying yes when I meant no!

I did a little more investigating and indeed the layer styles have been changed in PSP X2 and made incompatible with earlier versions of PSP. They are also no longer compatible with Photoshop when saved as a .psd according to the literature as well.

The material mentioned a compatibility option when saving to make it work with earlier versions but of course if something is done in a style layer that would have to be adjusted or not saved so it might destroy part of the effect given to an image.

So the only complete solution I see is to use version 11 and under or make a clean break and only use X2 and subsequent versions.
