I have my photo collection managed by Adobe Elements 4 on XP Home edition, and here's my problem:
Having backed up pics and moved them more than wise, I have two folders:
a) 3500 pics on a laptop
b) 4000 pics on a hard drive, of which 3500 are the same images, but with different modification dates (>24 hrs apart) due to when they were moved

Elements can't sort new from old, and when pointed at folder B, thinks they all need to be added. How can I sort out the 500 files that are in folder B, but don't appear in folder A, so I can add them without amassing a bunch of duplicate images? Preferably without buying any software....

So far I've looked at freeware folder comarison programs (ViceVersa), but they don't allow anything other than synchronising, ie you can't divert the files off to a new location to be picked up by Elements; if I were on a Mac I could mark all the A files in a colour, so that when B files are copied in it's obvious which are new files, but I don't think there's a similar facility in XP....??

I'm sure there must be a simple way around this, any ideas? Thanks!

If the images aren't exact binary duplicates, then perhaps this prog may help

thanks for pointing me towards that - in reality I found it didn't quite do what it promised (ended up deleting files from both source and destination folder, tho' all backed up so not a problem). In the end only a lot of grunt-work solved it.
