Got wrong camera software.
I bought my wife a new Powershot SD950 IS for Christmas and apparently did not look at the fine print when I ordered it. So, I got the one with the McIntosh camera software rather than the PC software. Does anybody know how I could get the right software before Christmas?

You might want to check the fine print. Does it say that the CD-ROM has Macintosh software only or software for both Windows and Macintosh.

This review makes it sound like the CD-ROM that comes with the camera has software for both operating systems ...

You can get everything you need for your Canon camera right from them. Here's the link.. just click it and you are there....

If you need or want anything else just do a search for it on their site.

My last Canon (purchased a month ago) came with "Digital Camera Solution Disk version 30.2 ". Left side of the CD says for Macintosh. Right side of the CD says for Windows. Maybe the OP just didn't look at his CD close enough.

My CD contains
1) Zoom Browser EX, which is one of those organizers for sorting/printing your photos. It has some edit features - auto adjust color, crop, red eye removal,
2) Photostitch - for making panoramas out of smaller landscape shots
3) EOS utilities - for downloading and running the camera off a tether - probably only works with dSLRs

The above three cannot be downloaded as far as I know. The programs do have some value and Canon can't give them away.

Without looking very far within the site I mentioned I saw this.. Does it mean it can be installed? Beats me but what I do know is it's worth a shot and it costs nothing. As far as the other software is concerned I'm sure the same would be the case.

" If one of the following applications is installed, it is possible to install ZoomBrowser EX 5.8b even if no previous version of ZoomBrowser EX has been installed. "

For the SD750 (what I have), the full message indicates you do need prior software.

"If one of the following applications is installed, it is possible to install ZoomBrowser EX 5.8b even if no previous version of ZoomBrowser EX has been installed.

- Digital Photo Professional 1.x / 2.x
- EOS Viewer Utility 1.x
"

Regarding these two apps, I believe the first was an earlier browser and the second is the EOS utility (early version) that was on my CD.

The original poster won't need this software if he already has a photo editor. I never use the photo browsers myself.

p.s. Nice photos on your site - guyzer!

I don't have a Canon, but I think all cameras are recognized by Windows XP by just plugging the cable in, but I use a cardreader as most people do anyway. It is bothersome to find the cable ever time. Also most cameraware is useless, I find Adobe Albumstarter, Picassa or Preclick to sort pictures much better. For red-eye removal Preclick is the best and easiest, also it burns the pix on CD and can send them per email. For working with pictures I use PaintshopPro.

EOS also allows you to use your monitor as your veiwfinder and control the camera from the computer.
