Removing background
Good evening everybody,
I am using Adobe Photoshop CS3 (of which I have no idea how to use it. Yes i"m one of those people that buy it before learning how to use it.) I figured out that the magnetic lasso will basically trace my image that I need. However, my goal is to remove the background from an image. My coworker in the graphics department said to use the quick mask tool, and something about marching ants. (that is what it sounded like anyway.) then to make the layer mask. I'm not sure what he is exaclty getting to. He said that the proper way is to use the quick mask because it doesn't technically remove the backdrop it just layers over it instead. I've looked online for quick tips and what nots, none were specific.
I've search on here for "quick mask" came up with a few results, none that I could interpret into PS CS3.

Go to http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html

Look for the Quick Select and Refine Edge tutorial. It's about 1/3 way down the page. Excellent start. Check out the other tutorials as well. I don't particularly like his style, but the guy KNOWS Photoshop. His Services download is very handy. Consider joining NAPP. It's worth the money.

you could also look in the Help files that come with the program...there is a wealth of infomation to be found in them...

I agree with BDACBT... if you are serious...joining NAPP is money well spent

A two second google search turned up this...

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cs3+quick+mask

that should give you plenty to get started with...
