I have a Nikon D70 which I use mainly for landscape and wildlife images. I have Parkinson's disease (mild) and get a lot of wasted shots due to my moving the camera when firing the shutter. I use a good tripod and have tried using the Nikon remote but it only works when I am in front of the camera. I've also tried time delay but, as you will appreciate, the best shots are often spontaneous.
Does anyone know of a device like the cable or air operated devices used on film cameras that could be used on a DSLR? I have one or two ideas for something but it would need precision engineering skills which I don't have.

Your nikon remote is infrared and require line of site (has to be pointed at the sensor).
You could eliminate this problem with a radio frequency remote.
They do not require line of site.
Something like this.
RF remote.

Thanks leroys1000 , I've already looked at something like this but although the description says it works on the D70, the socket required was first fitted to the D70s.
I've just seen something on eBay which has a reflector positioned in front of the IR sensor on the camera allowing the IR sender to be used from behind and to the side, I may give this a try.

Thanks ferrija1. I've seen a few products claiming to work with the D70 which, in fact, cannot. The D70 has no remote control socket of any sort, just DCin AVout and USB. I have been experimenting by placing a reflective object in front of the IR sensor and can get the shutter to fire from about 3-4 feet directly behind using the remote. I'm thinking maybe a small dental mirror fixed with velcro might work. I'll have a go over the next day or two and post my results.

Tony-I don't have a solution-but I sympathize with your problem. I also vibrate (I have a similar ailment named essential tremor.) I get about half my camera shots good-the rest smeared. I use the timer with camera resting on a convenient table or post whenever possible.
Several newer cameras by SONY have an IMAGE STABILIZATION feature that I am considering-it might be another option.

A white bicycle reflector will work for infrared.
