Scanner Started Freezing Computer
I use Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2. I have an HP ScanJet 3400C scanner which has worked perfectly until this week! A few months ago I had to put in a new hard drive and I purchased new WindowsXP Professional software. I still have my old drive on my computer as a backup. I don't believe I've tried to use my scanner since updating my computer until this week, so I've just now discovered this problem. When I start the scan the scanner will act like it's working and the computer will say something like *scanner lamp warming up* and then my computer will just freeze....can't even move the mouse to try to restart the computer. I have tried uninstalling the scanner software and reinstalling it from the orinial disk and even from the HP website....still having the same problem. I'm not sure if the scanner program is still on the old drive, if so, that may be the problem but I'm not sure how to fix it. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

That should've worked around most of the HP software ...
so the problem must be in the Scanner or maybe the Driver.

When my HP scanner did the same thing this is what I used to have to do to fix it.

With your computer on and your scanner switched off unplug the scanner from the computer, then the wall. Then shut your computer down. Wait a minute or two and turn your computer on. Then put both plugs back where they belong. Then turn on the scanner and see what happens.

Just a wild thought .. If I remember right, the 3400 has a Scanner Carriage lock on the back.
Is it unlocked ??
