Scanner Software Question
I recently got an HP PSC 2175 All-in-one printer from a friend and was wondering if there was other free software to use to scan pictures and documents from it. I was hoping I'd be able to use something other than HP's software, because Ive had bad experiences with it in the past. Thanks for all the help.

Threr is a lot of software out there for scanners.
Some replace the twain driver and some use the existing one.
You will have to sort through them to find one that suits your needs.
Scanner software.

Being the brutally honest person I am, I'll say that most problems with scanning software are nothing to do with the software per se, but rather the users failure to understand the concept of scanning.

I've used lots of manufacturers sofware and whilst some ARE better than others and some are marginally easier to use than others, they ALL do a good if not great job, once you understand the settings and take it off "AUTO" mode.

What is the issue you have with HP's supplied software?

I'll agree about the failure to understand the limitations of scanning (too many users think movies represent reality), but HP's supplied software does have problems. Not with scanning per se, but with all the associated junk that gets install along with the scanner driver. I really don't need the ability to scan to email, scan to the web, etc. When I can get the HP software to just scan & save on my HD it works fine-but it just tries to do too many things I don't want to do & that gets in my way. (I remember one time, when I tried removing IE, HP's scanning software blew up. Apparently it relies on IE somehow. God knows why, but it does.)

That was my main problem. There was just too much stuff that i wasnt using and it was taking up space. I guess my question should therefore be simplified to: Does anyone know of any simple photo/document scanning programs?

Thanks

I've never actually installed HP software, but most brands give you a choice of what you install.

So instead of clicking 'Typical' you click on 'Custom' and install the applications you require. I know Epson, Canon and Microtech all do this.

When you install the software .. It should give you a choice of Basic or Full.
I didn't see the Basic drivers at HP's site ... All you need is the twain driver

I'd choose Basic install .. then see this page .. http://2noyb.home.insightbb.com/
Scanner tips at the bottom.

Or you can use M$ Scanner n Camera wizard.
