Cool Changing location on photo properties
Hi -

Thanks for the great information on how to change the registered name on my computer.
When I right click on the Properties on a jpeg it stills indicated the photo is located on (at) the old computer name. For example: instead of saying: jpg/shaefferblue/ blah, blah, blah.... it sayd jpg/old computer name/ blah, blah, blah

How can I change that string?

Many thanks!
Blue

It does not sound like you are looking at the properties of a jpeg (or any image file). It sounds like you are looking at the properties of a shortcut to a jpeg.

The properties on the actual file (not a shortcut) typically does not contain the path to where the file resides.

If you want to refresh a path on a shortcut, you can either select the [Find Target] button, which may re-find the image (it may not work), or you could just reedit the path to the correct path, or just trash that invalid shortcut, and make new ones.

Changing photo
Hi Chuck E-

Thanks for your comments. I tried everything - even taking new photos - and still, when I right click on Properties (even with new photos) it comes up with C:\Documents and Settings\old name\Desktop.

Frustrating - cause I think it should be an easy fix. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

What you are seeing IS NOT the computer name, but rather the user name of the person logged in.

This properties is not in the image per se, it will change depending on where and what computer it's in.

But if you are logged in as JoBlow than that will show up, as you are looking at images in the documents and settings folder belonging to JoBlow.

The PC name is irrelevant to file location.

Thank you, PopPicker. I'll load this onto a thumb drive and take it to a local library to test it. I'm trying to change the log-in name (following great directions from you guys!) but must have missed the login name somewhere in the registry.

By the way - am learning a LOT just reading the threads on this site! Many thanks!

Not that you want to do this now, or even asking to do so ... I'd thought I try to give you a little information:

While you can change the login (the desktop) name in the registry, that is the HARD way of doing so.

If you need a desktop of another name you can simply go to the Control Panel and do so. I do not recommend that you change the name of the login name that way, though, since it will probably keep the name of the desktop folder, and only make the appearance of the name different. It gets confusing.

It is much better, if you require a login and desktop name being the same - but different from what you already have, to just create a new desktop of the name you desire. Then just move stuff (you documents and pictures) from the previous desktop to the new one.

Cool Thanks Senior Members!
Chuck E and PotPicker - many thanks for your help! Created a new User and named it with the appropriate name - and it worked!

Also learned a bunch of misc. stuff while on this hunt. And found you guys!

Thanks again!
