Angry resizing a picture
hi, I have checked everywhere, now maybe someone here can actually help me, I need to resize a picture form x to 3 1/2" by 2" its a business card, but every program I have, only resizes in pixels.
what is the math to do this with? how many pixels =3 1/2" ?
how many pixels = 2" ?

A digital picture is measured in pixels. Only when you need to display or print the image, does size matter. You can print it at 100 pixels/inch, 200 pixels/inch, 300 pixels/inch, etc. 300 pixels/inch will give you a very good print. Your print driver will allow you to set the size.
To get 3.5x2, you may have to first crop the image.
What is the pixel size of the original image?

So just to clarify, to make a very good print at 3.5x2 you would want a 1050 pixel by 600 pixel image.

Now, depending on the complexity of the image, you can fudge on the actual numbers, but not the ratio; if you have a smaller image than that you might still get an acceptable print but you want the 3.5 to 2 ratio to stay the same by cropping if needed, otherwise it'll looked squished or elongated one way or another when printed.

The proportions are very close. 3.5x2 would be proportional to a picture of 1020x582. To be perfect, you would crop the photo to this size, shaving just a bit off the height. I would try printing just as is, you probably won't notice that little bit. You would be at 300 pixels/inch, which is good.

The print box should let you choose the size. Here we get into which software you are using. The attachment is an example from Irfanview.

You're working too hard. Get a program that includes business card templates, like MS Puiblisher.
