Thumbs up Strangest .jpg problem - please help!
Hello all,

I've used this great forum before and had loads of help, so thought
I'd run this by you all.

I was recently asked for some help with a strange problem I've never ever
seen or heard of before.
I was handed a digital camera and asked to look at just one of several
images of a small child.
The particular image in question looked quite normal in the LCD as I
scrolled to it, then suddenly the childs lips turned from the usual reddish
color to black.
This problem is confined to just one photo, is repeatable over and over
and can be zoomed in on to see the problem black lips area.

It seems like the pixels of these red colored areas display OK for a second
or so in the LCD and then suddenly turn to black.

Does anyone know how this can happen?
Could it be a corrupt image file or could the camera successfully read the .jpg
for a moment and then somehow misread it ??

Many thanks in advance for your help with this one.
It is really taxing my brain!

Never heard of such a thing. What happens when you download it to your computer and view it there?

According to the person concerned the same thing happens on a PC.
Could this be some sort of file corruption do you think?

It really does happen and I couldn't believe it when I saw it.

Just a guess-but could the cameras "red-eye reduction" feature be so sensitive as to fix red lips?

I've seen color profiles that were messed up just a little like that, nothing so specific that it was just the lips on one photo though. Since it seems to be consistent (on PC too) first thing I'd try is viewing it with various other image display programs and see if one or more gets it right. If one does I'd convert it to another format like bitmap; that usually works if its a profile problem. Then it can be converted back to .jpg if desired. It might still work to convert it if its not displayed correctly, I just haven't tried it to find out.
