'My Pictures' folder freezes as it Opens and shuts down
After opening 'My Pictures' folder in 'My Documents' as the images are loading to the pictures window it stops loading the images and generates the message: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and NEEDS TO CLOSE. We are sorry for the inconvenience". "If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost". "For more information about this error, click here." There is a button "Close" to close program.

After clicking "Click Here" the following window appears with this message:
"Windows Explorer -Error Signature:
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0003426d"

This problem started after the PC crashed and Windows had to be reinstalled from scratch. I need to know how can I fix this problem so "My Pictures" folder opens normally. I'd appreciate any help I can get. RamArx

Possibly a virus or a bad add-on.

Do you have an ATI video card, by chance? There was a known issue with ATI cards and Windows crashing when trying to thumbnail certain MPEG video files, this may be something similar.

If Windows has just been reinstalled from scratch, why not just do a clean reinstall again? I know it's a pain, but something may have borked in the current install process.

My guess is similar, that its reading a corrupt file in such a way that it causes a termination error. ACDSee 6 has such a bug in it that whenever it came upon a partial .jpg file it immeadiately terminated.

Easy to test the video or corrupt image file theory by moving everything to a different folder and just copying 10% of them back at a time maybe and see if the problem can be related to that or not.

Probably something messed up with Windows if its not.
