What's wrong with my digi cam?
I've got an older digi cam -- Olympus Camedia D-490 -- that used to work fine until the shudder suddenly stopped working properly. It's hyper sensitive -- I slide open the cover and it opens itself a little bit but then goes back into the off position. The slightest bump will shut it off. Is there anything I can do it fix it? Would Olympus be able to fix it even though it's at least 7 years old?

Not sure what you mean by "shudder", but I will assume you mean "shutter"?

It certainly sounds like a mechanical problem.
Olympus agents may be able to repair it, but in comparison to a new camera the repair is almost certain to be much more expensive than a replacement, particularly as it is only 2 megapixels.

Not saying this is your problem, but I used to have a little Minolta with a sliding cover that also got really hyper. I'd open it and the lens would suddenly retract. I figured there was probably a slide switch under the cover and I got the camera to work a little more reliably by blowing under the lid with a can of compressed air.

Eventually, I took it apart and found there was a tiny switch and its lever was full of lint and gunk.

It's not worth a repair. For the cost of a repair, probably $100-150, you can get a much better camera if you look for sales and closeouts.
