Photoshop wont Open without crashing
I have photoshop CS3 Extended edition and I had it for about a year now. It was working perfectly until yesterday. I just finished cleaning my pc up after many virus infections, so maybe thats the problem. I have tried restarting my pc a couple of times, with no gain on the problem. I would appreciate any help please/thanks.

Problem: photoshop takes a long time to load then crashes. It crashes while loading once it gets to the "finding system profiles"

Try a System Restore, or reinstall CS3.
You need to be sure all the infection is gone, so you might want to post a hijack log.

you could try this before you reinstall it

Hold down Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys while starting Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences file. click yes and see what happens

I tried to do the ctrl + alt + shift thing, it didn't work and photoshop still froze. I tried to reinstall but the installation failed. I cannot use system restore because i only started setting restore points after my virus was removed. Can i post a hijack log here? maybe someone could look at it and tell me if there is any problems.

Photoshop will complain loudly if you have reinstalled either PS or Windows, or both,
without refreshing the plug-ins.

Certain plug-ins require dll files that don't get installed by Photoshop,
but when Photoshop loads, it looks for these dll's, as it scans for plug-ins.
You should find the offending plug-in, and reinstall it. An alternative to
reinstalling the plug-in is to find a copy of the missing dll file, and copy it to
your Windows system32 folder, and/or to your
Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop/CS3 folder.

The biggest offender is msvcrt10.dll, but there are also others.

Also, CS3 has been out for less that two years, so you should be
eligible for free tech support from Adobe. I'd call them...

I tried replacing the dll file you mentioned, no change in the problem. I tried reinstalling a couple of times but nothing is working. I cannot get help from adobe because I torrented this version. I tried to call them anyway but they asked for a serial key (I got away dont worry :P). I still have this problem though, any further help would be appreciated. Also, if you can tell me the names of any other dll files that might be offending then i can try and fix them. Thanks for all the help so far

Sure sounds like you still might have a virus.

Have you tried doing a completely new OS install. If you do that without forumating your data will still be in place. Then perhaps you could reinstall photoshop.
You might also uninstall photoshop and reinstall at some point. Sometimes that works when a reinstall does not.

You need to read the TSG Rules before future posts, we don't assist with pirate software here! DotHQ, you should read the same rules as well.
