Copying from Camcorder
I purchased a DV Camcorder that only connects to a computer with a firewire. I'd rather not buy a firewire card for one application. Is there any adapter that will let me connect a firewire by way of a USB port.
Thank you,

There is such an adapter but its expensive (at least the one I found at http://www.usbfirewire.com/uadapters.html) at about $120 and the performance may suffer and your software for file handling between the camcorder and the computer may have a fit.

I have this program, and it is great for any video transfer using the traditional RCA jacks..which I am sure your camera has...you must have USB 2.0 though, so if your computer is a few years old double check...this will apply to any solution you get via USB.

By the way a fire wire card will likely be cheaper than any other solution. I bought a USB PCI hub with 2 firewire ports for under $20....look here for example...Fire wire is also quicker.

There is another thing to think about. If you use the RCA jacks you'll be capturing in analog, some quality loss. With fire wire you'll be transferring digitally, better quality, much better as well as faster.
