AVI clips - Want to make DVD and Have a Menu
Hey all,

I am trying to take several .avi videos and put them onto one DVD (Easy, right?) well, I want to make a screen that the DVD will bring up first (like it does for movies you buy) and have a 'scene selection' -- But instead lf scenes, it'll play a different AVI depending on what is chosen.

I want to make this a present for my friend and am having problems finding out how to do this. Could anyone give me a hand?

Thanks in advance,

Geoff

Just a follow up:

I have windows movie maker on my vista home permium laptop. Does it work like this?:

Put the AVIs that you want on the disc, add the picture you want as the background on the menu and do some sort of selection that tells it to make a menu and I'm set?

I'm assuming that's how it is done but that's just me

DVD flick can do what you want. You can add the avi files to the project and enable a menu. The programme allows you to choose from 4 menu templates. When you insert the dvd into your player, the menu comes up. You can then watch the clips in sequence or choose a specific one.

You can also do that with ConvertXtoDvD. Google it and you'll find their website... its quite a good program, it has optimisations to take advantage of your cpu fully whether its single core or dual, and also uses your GPU to help with the encoding (since its so computing-intensive).

But, its not a free program.

If you have Windows Movie Maker than you most likely have Windows Dvd Maker. In Movie Maker you combine Avi's into one video, but in DVD Maker you can put multiple avis and divide them into chapters , Id recommend using DVD maker. Also it has some nice Menu options.

As far as I know, Windows DVD maker is only part of Vista Ultimate and Vista Home Premium. It is definitely not part of XP, Vista Home Basic and Vista Business.

I like what Chrismichael suggested, just make one long movie and use chapters to get to the different parts. If you do this, you will also want to add a few seconds of black in between the clips.
