Looking for scanning software
A friend of mine has a Scanmaker x6 scanner. It came with this "Scanning Wizard" software which is just an advanced importing control panel. It allows him to change settings like dpi, color balance, and a bunch of stuff that's not included with the one built into Windows.

I'm wondering if there are others out there that are more up to date that provide you with detailed scanning controls.

I use the freeware Image viewer and editor "Irfanview" to run my Scanners.
http://www.irfanview.com/

It uses the same scanner "controls" as Windows, but once the scan is acquired into Irfanview ..
It can be edited further before saving it somewhere.

Holler if you're interested .. I can send you a Shortcut to start Irfanview in the Scanner Acquire mode.
