Software for Transparent GIF's
I do most of my photo editing on Serif PhotoPlus after I changed a year ago from an old version of PaintShop Pro. I find it's excellent software, but takes some getting used to.

I often need to produce images for the web where the background is transparent. Usually this means making a white background transparent. There seems to be no easy way of doing this in PhotoPlus and I still have not mastered the art - or am I just being lazy? I used to use Microsoft Photo Editor for this, but now I have changed to a Vista PC this isn't available any more.

Surely there must be a small programme out there somewhere - preferably free - that will produce transparent GIF's easily at the click of a mouse?

In gimp, you can select the area by color and change
it to alpha channel(transparent).
Make sure to save as gif..
You will have to check the menus.
I haven't used it for a while.
