Photoshop will not open! Tried all other suggestions!
Hi,

I've been looking for a fix for my PS which will close immediately when I try to open it. It appears others have this problem as well, and its usually fixed by deleting the prefs.psp file. I found and deleted this file on my own computer but the problem hasn't been fixed! Any other suggestions?! I am using PS CS3 on Window's Vista with an HP laptop. Thanks!!

I find that a total uninstall, manual removal of any remaining files/folders, re-boot and re-install normally works for this sort of problem. Depending on your feelings about registry cleaners, you could also run CCleaner after the uninstall (creating a backup of course!).

Is this an older AMD Sempron, by chance? Installing CS3 is pretty much a no-go in my experience, very hit and miss on that CPU architecture.

Try this alternative method to remove prefs: (Works with PS also)
Step 1. Hold down the Alt + Ctrl + Shift keys as you click on the icon to open Elements. When asked if you want to delete the settings file, say yes.

Step 2. Reset the preferences as above.

Step 3. Close Elements and let the file regenerate.
