Minidiscs not being read
Hi there
I have a collection of minidiscs which were recorded with a sony handycam a couple of years back. Now when I try playing them in a PC or dvd player some of them do not seem to be reading properly. There are a few which work fine aswell.
Since they are not originally mine I cannot tell you what software was used to finalise them, im guessing just the standard sony software that wouldve come with the handycam.
Now when I put them in the PC it will see the disc there but when I double click the dvd drive icon it will come up with please insert disc and open the dvd drive. However if I right click and click explore it will go into it but there is no folders or anything in there. When I right click and go to properties it comes up with the disc being completely full.
I dont have too much experience with minidiscs and such but know my way around a computer ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would really like to get this footage back

Thanks in advance
Cameron

Well I think you should try check the connection of the Rom on the the mother board. Also see if reinstalling the drivers of th rom might help.

Thanks for the response.
Sorry if I wasnt clear in my first post but the problem im having is with the discs, not the drive itself. I have about 10 of these minidiscs, 6 of them work fine in both pc's that I have tried and a dvd player but 4 of them do not work at all.
So as far as the dvd drive goes that is all fine, its just some of the discs which im having this problem with.

So you wish to retrieve something on the mini disk? Well you might need to try it to other cd roms because it's either this problem you have.

1. the Cd/dvd rom can't support it.
2. The mini disk damaged which leads to unable to be read.

Yes thats right, I want to get some video footage from the minidiscs.

Im sure that they are in the right format as I have other discs which have come from the same source, I even have a 2 sided disc that can be read on one side but not the other...
As far as I can tell they are not damaged in any way, The surfaces of the discs had a few fingerprints on them which I have rubbed off with a clean cloth. None of them have any scratches at all.

So it conclude that it's damaged maybe not physically but what it contains must be damaged. Are you Sure that the burning process was complete and correctly been done?
