I have used Photo Suite for a number of years now but the other day I installed PhotoPlay 2 but didn't like it so I uninstalled it. I got it cheap from Tiscali Rewards and thought I'd give it a whirl. Thing is, I meticulously removed all traces of this new software BUT the files of my photos are not the same as before. Previously the related PhotoSuite files had a certain look and on my old laptop this is still the same. On my present one, they look different but still open up as PhotoSuite. I uninstalled and reinstalled PhotoSuite but the releated icons with the files are still not the same as before. I can't make it out.
I just wondered why this is, please? Any ideas?
I use Windows XP Pro with SP 2.
Kindest regards
Maureen

Check the box to always use this program and select Photosuite. OK. You should get the PhotoSuite icon on all your images of that extension. If you have more than one type like jpg and tif, you would do it for each extension.

Might you have updated PhotoSuite? If you select a file on your laptop from My Computer or Windows Explorer does it open in PhotoSuite? Are the icons you are referring to showing in My Computer or Windows Explorer?
When you go through the dialog to default a program to open a certain extension, the icon for files of that extension usually reflect the program you have chosen. My best guess is that you are now getting PhotoSuite icons and had something else before. Or that a PhotoSuite update changed their default icon. | | Senior Member with 315 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Eastbourne, United Kingdom Experience: Intermediate | | Something else before? mmm not sure really because my other laptop shows the same icon picture as I have always known it to be for PhotoSuite. As far as I can remember, I've had PhotoSuite for years now, I always work in file Manager, or Windows Explorer, and these photos, since trying this new software and then uninstalling, also show this other icon/file picture. I don't suppose it really matters BUT I just want it the way it was before. I tried using update for PS but it somehow didn't work, It's Roxio PhotoSuite and I do use the software of Roxio music that came with my laptop and I still use this so nothing has changed here,
I just find it strange that my other laptop is still OK with the previous icons. | | Distinguished Member with 6,809 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2000 Location: Tampa Bay | | If it was my computer I would change the default to something else to see that the icons changed. Then change it back to PhotoSuite. If the icon changed both times I would probably assume it was the icon for PhotoSuite and I had been seeing something else earlier.
I guess you know that just using “Open With” and selecting one of the programs that is showing won’t change the icons. You have to go to “Choose Program”, check the box and then select PhotoSuite. | | Senior Member with 315 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Eastbourne, United Kingdom Experience: Intermediate | | Hi sipe,
Yes, I did this, using 'always choose this ..' and selected photo-editor. Other than Paint, I haven't got anything else to choose from, but the icon by the file stayed the same.
At present, I'm on my Epic and did the same (always open with) watched the picture by the photo file but it didn't change but stayed the same as for PhotoSuite. On here it's a coloured icon.
With Lenovo, I completely uninstalled PhotoSuite and got rid of all traces of this and that other program, so perhaps the icon by the file I now see, is as you suggested, the correct one. I had another cose look yesterday on Lenovo and it is of PhotoSuite, you can see the little grey camera. I've just taken a closer look on this colured one, using properties and it looks like a tropical scene of water and a small black yacht?
The only thing I installed a few weeks ago was Uniblue. Now I'm wondering whether it's removed something, although I can't think what? Do you think this is possible?
Many thanks for coming back to me

Paint will make unique icons for all files of the type if you choose that. If it won’t something is strange with your computer.
Something else that is strange is your lack of choices. Win 98 defaulted to Windows Explorer as the viewer and it has been a choice ever since – including XP Pro, XP Home and XP Media Center. All XP versions have had Windows Picture & Fax Viewer, which also has a unique icon.
Since you seem icon sensitive you might want to alter some of your icons. Have only just seen your message because none came in my normal Inbox, so I apologise for the delay. Photo-Editor is a MS program that gets installed (should I choose this) when installing the MS Office Suite.
When opening any photo, I always have it set by default to open with PhotoSuite. This is an entirely separate program I bought on disk. Both my laptops are set like this (to open with PhotoSuite).
I've just had a thought to remove MS Editor from my Epic laptop and see if my file icon changes in any way. However, Photo-Editor is a different image all together so I don't think it would make any difference. I've just checked and I don't think I have PhotoEditor on my Lenovo. I will switch on Epic presently and remove PhotoEditor and see what happens.
Will get back to you.
Thank you very much for helping me and also for the link to change my icons.

#10 | I removed MS PhotoEditor and now all the PhotoSuite icons by the files are as they should be!!! I am baffled to know why they should have changed to MS versions in the first place. Especially since I 'chose to always open with PhotoSuite'? Anyway, I'm pleased this is sorted, however I quite like the other icon but don't suppose I will install MS Editor to make it back as it was. I only kept this program in case some photo's didn't want to open up with PhotoSuite.
Thank you all ever so much for helping me out.
With kindest regards

#11 | I guess you can just write it off as a glitch. It shouldn't work that way. | | Senior Member with 315 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Eastbourne, United Kingdom Experience: Intermediate |

#12 | I know MS PhotoEditor that I had is out of date but I'm sure this wouldn't have made a difference? I'll admit it does look a bit dull, the grey PhotoSuite icon but I can live with it. Could change them, I know, but I'll leave it for now.
Many thanks again, slipe
