HELP!! Corupted Jpegs..trying to recover
hello all. this is a two part question. first off i have deleted pictures off my computer accidentally and emptied the recycle bin. stupid i know.
so i recovered them usuing a software undelete i think. now some of them came back damaged. in bridge i just see a box with a fake clouds and water picture. now i tried to recover again usuing a different software and a few of htem came in and i can see the picture BUT they have like a black line on the top and bottom. sort of like a wide screen movie. when i pull them into cs4 i get this error.

could not complete your request because an invalid SOS, DHT, DQT or EOI JPEG marker is found before a Jpeg SOI marker

i'm thinking the file is done for but if anyone has any ideas that would be great.

now for #2 i found a folder containing the pictures i deleted. they all look fine. it was in the cache folder under bridge. now the problem with these are they are a .jpg.jpg extention. it seems like they are a just a picture of the pictuer. you know what i mean. the file size is very small and they appear fine when i move them into cs4 but they are displayed at 100% and i see the whole picture. normally at 100% you are really zoomed in on detail. i tried uploading them to develop to see if i was right about a small file size and yes they won't print well as a 4x6 they are pixelated. is there any way to recover these to a normal size???

thanks and sorry for such a long post. so frustrated with all this.

#2 first is no, once the quality or size has been reduced and stored that way, there's no satisfying way to get that size and quality back.

For number 1, don't just stick with Bridge and Photshop when attempting to open recovered files. Some software will be more forgiving when it comes to opening and displaying and if you can get one of those programs to open it successfully there's an excellent chance you can crop and resave or convert to another format and save and salvage at least some of those pictures if the visually intact protion of the photo(s) is worth saving.

Some of the programs I would try are Paint.net, Irfanview, FastStone Image Viewer, xnView...

You could try to read these parts from these forums:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=10291113

Or you try this software out:

http://pixrecovery.software.informer.com/

I hope the info helps you as thats what I could find.

Copy that entire file (to a memory card or CG) and play with the copies. Start by renaming those with that double .JPG.JPG- that extra period is sure to confuse most programs. I suggest you don't copy to your hard disk-matter of fact don't do anything at all with your hard disk untill you either recover the pictures or give up trying.

I think what Knotbored meant was getting rid of the extra .jpg at the end of the file. I have to admit the first link I did put up is a bit of a lot of technical fiddling. I wish you luck coopergirl.
