Windows Photo Gallery vs. Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
I crop and design new pictures on my vista OS in Photoshop cs2. Once I'm done the changes I flatten and save it as .jpg. When I upload the pictures to the server and try opening them on a XP OS they work fine, the problem is when I try printing them on the XP, both sides of the picture gets cut off. But on vista it works fine.
To add a little more detail, when using XP OS and opening/viewing .jpg pictures in “Windows Picture and Fax Viewer” they come out fine. But when I try to printing them, in “Full page fax print” they come out fine, perfect, but when I try “Full page photo print” both sides of the picture get cut off. The “contact sheet” prints fine, but “8 x 10” cuts of the edges.
I have tried one other vista machine in the office and it works perfect. I also tried 2 other computers running XP OS and both do the same, they cut off the edges.
I do know that vista uses “Windows Photo Gallery” and XP uses “Windows Picture and Fax Viewer”.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
I attached one of the pictures that does not work in XP but does work in Vista.

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is good for quick viewing, but limited in most other respects. Notice that the photo print says that it will be cropped, with no option to resize.

Since your photo is 1800 X 646 pixels, it either has to be cropped or resized to fit the page.

Try using Irfanview. You will have more control over the printing process.

The "Full Page Photo Print" option in Windows attempts to fill the entire 8.5x11 page with the picture, leaving almost no space on the top, bottom, or sides. With pictures that are not already cropped to 8.5x11, this almost always results in the sides of the picture getting cut off, because it is enlarging the picture to fit the whole sheet of paper height-wise, and most pictures are wider than they are tall. Thus, it fills the whole page, but cuts off the sides.

The option of "Full Page Fax Print" shrinks the picture so that it will fit, in it's entirety, onto a sheet of paper.

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is an image viewer developed by Microsoft that is included with the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 operating systems. It is based on GDI+ [1] and is capable of viewing image formats supported by GDI+, namely, JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF (including animated GIFs), ICO, WMF, EMF and TIFF format files. This program superseded part of the functions of Imaging for Windows in previous versions of Windows, and has been replaced with Windows Photo Gallery in Windows Vista.
