F drive messed up my memory and camera
Please forgive me for sounding foolish first off. I was wondering if it's possible if my F drive had a virus and messed up my memory sick from my camera if when I put the stick back in the camera it would ruin the camera too?
What happened is, I took some picture from my Olympus camera, when I put them in my computer F drive they didn't read, even tho I had seen them on my camera. Then when I tried to put the card back into both different cameras it said no memory on invalid card. So I went to the store and bought another card, stuck it straight from the package into my camera and same thing happened. Is it possible that I have messed up BOTH my camera from putting my card into a bad F drive? Is there anythng I can do to fix my cameras? I tried to "format" the memory stick but no luck

Yes I did try to format it in the camera. I havent even put the new memory card in the computer. My F drive is for the slot for the memory stick, at least I think its called the f drive. I have two slots in my PC one for the bigger size memory stick and the other for the thinner one. Im just worried I have messed up both my cameras

to try to help you a little better please post this information.

operating system
make and names of cameras
name and size of the memory cards.

have you tried to plug the cameras into the PC using the cameras USB cord? and see if you can download them that way? or if you have a friend. try using his PC

i myself have never heard of card reader drive having a virus. only on the hard drives. have you did any virus scans?

Terminology on your memory cards is important. Memory stick is mainly used on Sony products these days and was never used on Olympus, as far as I can recall. Many of the older Olympus compacts used XD cards. Some of the newer ones gave been switched to SD cards. And a few Olympus cameras, mainly older ones, and the DSLR's use compact flash cards.

I can think of ways that a compact flash card could destroy a reader and camera, but that's a mechanical issue where someone breaks off a pin inside the card and that jams any future device that it's plugged into. Could an SD card or XD card have an internal short circuit that would damage a card reader or camera? Don't know.

Viruses can infect a card, but only attack a vulnerable operating system. Cameras aren't affected, and a format would clear the card anyway.

Sorry, it is a Compact Flash card, I guess I just call it a memory card, cause I have no clue. My Olympus camera is a E-520 and is pretty new. I think I may have gotten one of the cards "fixed" but Im scared to try and put it back in the computer slot, so I think after I take more pictures I will use the slot in my printer. My Nikon is older, its the Coolpix 5700. I am going to take one of the compact Flash cards back that I cant get to work, maybe this time it really is the card?

I always d/l pictures from my Olympus camera by attaching it to my computer with a USB mini cable. Have never had a problem with it... (just leave the card in the camera)

The Oly E520 will have dual XD card and CF card slots, just like my dreaded E510. Also, be careful what kind of USB cable you plug into it. Olympus uses a proprietary connector on the E-series cameras so you must use their cable.

So the new card worked in the camera until you stuck it into the reader and then it doesn't work in the camera any more? Or do no cards work in either the Olympus or the Nikon (hope not).

It's hard to tell, unless you have experience, but take a flashlight and peek into the card slots. See if any pins look bent.

I use the same cable for the camera that I use to tether my Motorola Razr phone when using it as a modem when wifi is not available when we travel.
