Lightbulb Solved: Acrylic picture frame - light it up!
I'm not a big tech/ electronic buff, and I need to know if there is a way to light up a clear acrylic pannel, it is 20in x 32in and 2mm thick, I have a large print I made that is going to go on it, but I want to have it lit up w/ out the need of a bulky light box. I have some white LED's from a past project, and was wondering if they might work. I've seen case modders take LED's and place then along the edges of the acrylic / glass and have it light up on the edges, If I were to take a sander to a side of it, would it allow light to bounce around and fully illuminate it?
Please ask more questions if you don't understand what I'm asking, I just need this done before the 20th.

You would need to drill into the edges, and place LEDs facing inwards, several on each edge.

This is done to provide backlighting on some devices, the clear acrylic does convey the light but only when the LEDs are embedded facing i towards the centre. Just how you would hide the wiring is another issue.

And just to add, the LEDs have a very narrow angle of illumination so several are needed or you will only get a single area lit.

THANK YOU! in the nick of time to, lol. The wires are going to be inside a "frame" (one black bar on each end to keep it even. I'll be working on it tonight, and may post the picture of the final product later one. thanks again!
