NES mod question
hello everyone, first thread.

first off, can it be done? here's some background info.

i have a Sony vaio notebook. PCG-FX140. its screen went out. its dim so it looks like the screen works but problem w/ a burnt out bulb (don't know the tech term for it). buddy of mine told me that the part is expensive to replace and not worth it seeing how my notebook is so old.

i can go w/ 3 options:

1. replace part (no labor costs) and spend some money.
i also dont need a laptop anymore. got a new one for school.

2. invest in keyboard and flatscreen and use it as a desktop.boring!

3. trick out the computer by putting the components into an old Nintendo Entertainment System console. (i'll have to get a screen and keyboard anyway) But this last option is so much cooler.

again, can it be done?

thanks,

vil

so i've disassembled the vaio. it fits into the NES case but i can't see to get the parts up and running. is there something special i have to worry about when putting back together components in a laptop? any gounding issues? right now i've disgarded the modem, screen, and touchpad. will this cause issues?

Look at the original case of the VAIO. The bottom end may have used a heatsink for a floating ground.

Also, by you discarding the screen you're potentially interrupting something in the POST of the system. It simply may not start it's POST if the screen is disconnected.
