Shopping for Notebook
Hi Everyone!

I've just begun shopping for a notebook through Dell, because I was told if I want something good enough to handle my media collection, while not spending an arm and a leg, Dell's the way to go. BUT, I'm having some trouble deciding which one, and I need your expert advice!

I literally only want something to handle my enormous music and video collection.

Something small, lightweight, travel-friendly.

I have something like 8,000 songs plus. Over 100 videos. And about 500 pictures.

I obviously have an Ipod where I get most of my songs from iTunes and/or file sharing software..

SO BASICALLY, this is what I would like:

Room for songs, video, photos.

Itunes, file sharing software.

Mozilla Firefox

Something to play my songs and videos on.

cd burner and dvd/cdrom drive.

Thats all.

If you could give me some tips or point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you so much!!!

At first, I was thinking HP too, but then this guy at a computer design center told me dell, cus its cheaper.. but I feel like HP would be more of what I want anyway...

So.. where would one go to get an hp? Does it matter? I mean what's my best bet, if I want to stay within the lines of affordable?

Thanks

You stated you wanted it light and travel friendly, therefore media centres may not be appropriate as they tend to be heavy "desktop replacement" types of laptops.

The cost goes up exponentially as the weight comes down, you will find.

I have personaly found that HP have had shorter lifespans, have just held funerals for two here, about 3 years old or less. But you can get duds in any brand, start with the weight issue and the $ you are prepared to spend. See where that leads you?
