dvd rom
just fitted a new dvd rom and on xp do i need to install the disc that came with it

What is the disk that came with it?? Xp will pick up the drive.

The disk that came with it probably has DVD viewers (or a writer if it was a DVD writer drive). Without it you will be able to load DVD software, but may need it for DVD movies.
