I have similar problem
Dog chewed wiring off of trailer. Bought wiring kit. Did not have brown wires for both sides so I spliced with one of those clip connectors to run brown wire to RH side. (The old wires hanging out of the lights had brown wire connected to them so it was 5 wire total). As long as my headlights are off everything is fine. With lights on things work too except when I mash the brakes, all lights go out. Brakes work fine w/ headlights off.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Oh, well. My problem seemed to remedy itself after I drove w/ the trailer attached to the vehicle. Everything is fine now. I guess this may have helped the other guy, but since you moved it out of his thread I guess he'll not know.

well, I think he can see other threads. In any case, we don't allow folks to hijack other threads to post different issues.

In your case, I think you still have a problem, you just don't know it. It sounds like the ground wire is missing, and when you drove it, you managed to get sufficient ground through the hitch. This is not a good thing, and I'd still get a proper ground wire working.
