Red face My first build - do these components look OK?
I think I'd better move this post to the Hardware forum. Sorry about that.

Hello,
This is my first build, and I would really appreciate if someone could let me know if these components would live together happily. It'll be mainly for office applications, homework, connecting to office (Cisco VPN) and surfing the internet, at least for now. OS will be Windows XP Pro. Cost is a major factor, so I've tried to find quality and reliability, but low end on price.

I already have the Antec case w/power supply. The rest I have not ordered yet. Including the case, this is shaping up to be affordable. I have monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer from my recently deceased system, and I may pull the optical drive from this system as well.

How does this look to you? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU!

Thanks, shuazien!
Hmmm... I know this may be obvious to others, but if the MOBO has onboard video and sound, I still need video and sound cards?

no not if its onboard. you may add video and audio cards if you want. but if you dont need high end graphics and audio the n the onboard features will do just fine

Thank you iridebmx2006. This is a great help.
As with so many other first time projects, the more I learn, the more I realize I need to learn. It's a lot to remember... Too bad they don't make human memory components. I could stand an upgrade!
What would I do without these forums!

if you want to play any newer (last 2-3 years) games you'll need more trhan on board video if you wana have any fun, but if your not into gaming then ya thats a good setup. just dont forget about cables. nothing is worse than being short a cable. good luck and have fun!!

You might consider a larger hard drive as the cost to triple the size you chose is about another $20..... Newegg
Seagate is a good choice, imo......and don't forget the Seagate software ....Diskwizard, is a free download for Seagate users and it includes a version of Acronis True Image that is very useful for saving a drive image for a backup reinstall.
