Build or Buy?
I've heard a lot of points from both sides on this topic but I'm still undecided. In this day and age, is it cheaper to buy a pre-made computer system or to build your own system from scratch? I really need to get a final decision on this . Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Lawl

Given the availability of open source software and rising processor speeds, I'd say it is cheaper to build your own desktop than to buy a pre-made one. In addition, if you buy a pre-made one you have to remove the bloatware that comes pre-installed on every computer. From the get-go, you have a choice as to what software you want installed.

My personal opinion is to build my own.

There's more to purchasing a computer than price. I think quality is more important as well as time and frustration. Don't think of building a computer as a cost-savings measure (new & assembled is cheap) but rather a learning process. If you don't want to spend hours, days, and weeks troubleshooting strange hardware problems and incompatibilities, don't build.

Cheaper to buy a ready made, hands down. Get more bang for the buck. Having said that, I'd build my own. See link below.

If you have access to a local store like a Frys that has occasional loss leader sales, wait for them, and accumulate the components cheap. Then you could build a more powerful PC for the same price as one you buy.

But then again, sometimes they put the builts on sale at cost too.

And if you build one, then you may be able to drop in a new CPU and motherboard in the future for less cost (if power supply can handle it).
