160Mb memory
10.2 GB hard drive

Ubuntu system installed
Ideal for rebuild, experiment, server, etc

Afternoon I am buying the above PC tonight (£20) for my first re build of a computer, bearing in mind I am purely a newbie to it, Im quite excited !

Can anyway tell me about the Operating system currently installed 'Ubuntu' and whether I could easily install Windows Xp / Media center??

XP will hardly run on a system with 160MB RAM, expecially if it has onboard graphics using shared RAM. I have an AMD K6-2 400MHz with 256MB RAM and a separate MX-420 video card that runs XP. Performance is acceptable for browsing and email if I turn off the eye candy.

Without knowing the exact motherboard, my guess is you need PC100 or PC133 SDRAM (168 pin). 256MB is around £17-25, and 512MB is around £30-35 if you are in the UK. And although you would guess PC133 costs more than PC100 because it is faster, that isn't necessarily true it depends more on availability.

Ubuntu is a desktop version of Linux, and is very stable and easy to pick up operating system. Most functions are as easy as (if not easier than) Window$.

More info: about Ubuntu desktop edition
