New PC build SLI Help
Hi guys i am in the process of building a new PC and i purchased a XFX 8600GT 512mb and i was wondering if i could run SLI with a video card i saw on tigerdirect.com that was the 256mb 8600gt XXX version.

Always try to stick with the same two cards.

they are the same cards they are both the 8600gt i was just wondering on the difference between the 256 and 512. Because i don't if it will work with one 256mb and one 512mb

That is one of the things about sli, they use the same memory. You don't want to drop down to a lower memory. It might just use that memory (256mg), instead of the 512mg. That is one of the reason you do not want to confuse the sli or cause yourself more problems.
When you have two at 512mg that is all it will use. It does not double. But if you use one with only half..... Get what I'm saying?

yeah thanks a lot this is my first time doing any of this kind of stuff so its all new to me. I plan on getting 2 256 cards

No, no way compatable to say the least. why settle for a 8600gt when the 8800gt are comming right down in price.

That's right I would go for two 8800 GT (G92) or better yet, I went for the 8800GTS 512mg (G92). That one is better (or at least equal to) that 8800gtx 764mg Ultra. I could never understand why go for two cards when one great "one" would do.

I know a thing or two about the 8600 series cards and just to let you know, the 512mb cards use DDR2 and the 256mb cards use DDR3, the DDR3 ram runs alot better on these cards.
