Building A PC vs. Repairing an old Model
Hey everybody,

I am in the process of building my first PC. I have decided on a couple things: my budget, OS, processor, motherboard. Since I am in Canada; newegg is not an option, but NCIX and tigerdirect are.

Recently, my company was selling off some older modelled computers, and I decided I'd pick some up. So, I got three "Dell Precision WorkStation 530" for $20. However (and I knew this at the time of buying), they all have the same problem, they have been striped off harddrives (security reasons), have bad motherboards (does this mean the uProcessor is bad as well?) and have had the RDRam removed. Otherwise, they are all there (power supply, fans, drives etc).

I was thinking before I dove into buying components and everything else for my new computer that I should repair these computers first. I've had some trouble dealing with Dell since these computers aren't registered under my name; but I can't even find the names of the components they used in their computers only the Dell part numbers.

So community, I am wondering if you could help me with anything to do with 'rebuilding' one of the PCs that I purchased. If possible, I will use one of the ones I purchased as the basis of my own (stripping the motherboard and the rest, but leaving the power supply [450W! ;p] and the six fans). If you could provide any information on working with this model (or how hard it would be to reinstall another motherboard and switch the processor to this new board) it would be helpful!

Thanks!
