Programing a police scanner
I have two police scanners, actually I bought them at the time for weather forcasts etc with the added benifits of hearing what was going on if I heard a siren,or the highway department in the winter but anyway, I can't figure out how to program them since moving to a different area, so their not programed right for my area.

I've studied the programing part in the past and it's pretty intence but never could get it right.
I'm wandering if with all the new technology if my scanners are even any good now. I bought them about 15 years ago.

Does anyone know about anything about my issue here?

The scanners may still work in your new location. It all depends on what frequencies the services in your new area are using and what frequency bands are covered by your scanners. Things get complicated if the services use trunked radios.

You may be able to get information on the frequencies used in your area here.

where I live they have changed to the new frequencies. Pretty sure my son who is on the Fire Department indicated it is so they can communicate with the police. Not sure if some of the broadcasts or all are on the new frequencies though. And these frequencies are not available to the public as I recall. Very expensive radios too.

In my state (Washibgton) they no longer publish the police frequencies (which they used to do.) But that scanner is likely to be fun to play with listening in on other weather and commercial frequencies. The following site showed over 50 frequencies used in my very isolated county, I am sure larger metropolitan areas would have even more.

By the way- searcch for free instruction manuals for scanners. Its likely that they are all programed in a similar way, even if the specific old manual isn't available. I also have a scanner I haven't used in years, and totally forget how to program it.
