Chain saw artwork.
Hello,Anyone out there into chain saw art? I am looking for info on what I will need to use a chain saw to carve wooden lawn decorations. Is an electric chain saw better to use or a gas chain saw? Are there certain chain saw bars and chains that I will need? Any and all info will be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds cool

Im not into chain saws but iv made plenty of art with electric tools for my mother.

Iv never used gas operated tools for art ,i would imagine they would be better suited for industrial use because of there extreme power band. I couldn't see a problem using electric tho , probably much safer and controllable. I do know the electric chain saws have a smaller chain width and bits ,that means more accurate cuts ,they probably smoke gas saws in the rpm range anyway.

Try Instructables

I live near Sedro-Woolley Washington state where they have a 4 day chainsaw competition every 4th of July and the downtown is decorated with amazing art done durring those events. They all use only gas powered saws-usually with special smaller radiused tips for detailing.-Note the danger when sawing at the tip of a chainsaw-it tends to grab and will bite you in the tip of your baseball cap!
They make a carving attachment to use with an electric grinder-looks like a chainsaw wound around a 2 inch washer- ARBORTECH is shown in a catalog I just dug out.
I have several carvings done durring hour-long competitions and lots of photos taken at the 4 day events-will post a few here if you would like.

You are welcome.

These are some that I shot in the town of Hope, B.C. which is known for it chainsaw carvers. They are located on the streets in the downtown area and are very impressive.

Sorry for the big post but you wanted pictures so now you got 'em.

These two are called relief carvings and are absolutely gorgeous. I'm amazed someone hasn't stolen them. Notice how the grain of the wood has been used to set off the scene. Brilliant.........
