This update also addresses a vulnerability in Word's field codes that could allow an attacker to maliciously use field codes and external updates to steal information from your computer without your knowledge. For more information about these vulnerabilities, see Microsoft Security Bulletins MS02-050 and MS02-059.

Before you can install the Microsoft Office 2001 URL Security Updater, one or more of the following programs must be installed on your computer: Word 2001 Service Release 1 (SR1), Excel 2001 SR1, PowerPoint 2001 SR1, Entourage 2001 SR1, or Word + Entourage 2001 Special Edition.

Note You must also make sure that you have installed all previous updates for Office 2001 before you install this update. For complete information about getting Office 2001 up to date, see Making sure your version of Office is up to date.
