windows to mac networking
I want to set up network to share one cable modem on three computers. A windows nt4 celeron, a macintosh lcII and a macintosh se/30. Seems to simple the hard part is that only the nt4 and the se/30 have a ethernet card. So i want to set up the lcII via appleshare. How do i do this?

Buy a router like the LinkSys BEFSR41.

Start searching eBay and the like for an Appleshare to Ethernet "transceiver", I believe that Cayman used to make them about twelve years ago.

I don't even know if those old Apples support TCP/IP, or if the Gator box (Cayman) takes care of the protocol translation.

If you want it to work, you'll have to connect:

Cable Modem to router (to perform NAT and DHCP).
Router to NT 4
Router to se/30, if it will run TCP/IP
Router to Gator box (via Ethernet 10 Base-T)
Gator Box to lcII (via appleshare)

The way you suggested setting it up won't work: you only get one IP address, and the hub won't do anything to help you share that between multiple machines.

Also, I wouldn't recommend using the se/30 as an appleshare "translator", even if you ever do get it to work, the low power of the se/30 will really slow down traffic to/from the lcII.
