Mac won't rec new camcorder
I have a powerbook G3 Pismo with built in firewire ports. I also have a Sony Hi8 camcorder. The computer doesn't show any sign of recognizing the camera. The software that I have is the crap that came bundled with the camera.
I use this Powerbook for an internet browser only. I'm not familiar with it at all.
Thanks

The Sony may be one of those that don't work with a mac. There are a few.....
You may have to do a search on Apple's site to find out about compatability. You can try trashing the preferences for the cam software. Try trashing the software and re-installing it. Maybe there was a problem with the first install....
Hold the shift key down while booting up, to turn extensions off, and see if it works then (may be an extension conflict). If you need extensions to be on, because of an ext. the cam software installed, go to extensions manager in control panels, and turn off half the extensions, reboot and try it again. If that don't work, turn those ext. back on, and turn off other half (except one need for cam), and try it again.

Which OS are you using? If it's OS 8.6, are you using Quicktime 6.0? 6.0 is a big problem with cameras in OS 8.6....... When I downloaded QT 6.0 and installed it, my webcam quit working! Had to reinstall older version of QT.
Good luck...........Hope one of these suggestions works for you.
Keep us posted..........
