Mac OS 9.1 relative emergency HELP!
Hello. My sister has an iBook with 9.1 on it. She has a ton of stuff on it that is due tommorrow, and she somehow managed to set it up so she needs a password to access all of her work but believes she never gave it a password in the first place. So basically everything on her computer is locked up with a password we don't know. Her friend who sold her the computer (who never required the user to enter a password either) had the same problem once and took it to CompUSA to get it fixed. Can anyone explain how she can disable this function or reset the password? Thank you very much!

you can try rebooting while holding down the shift key. Hold shift key down, until bootup is finished or until it says "extensions off" on the screen. She may be able to access what she needs to this way. Worth a try anyway..........
Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion I will give it a shot. This isn't as urgent as it was before but we still need to figure it out. Thanks again.

if theres a firewire port on the ibook. you can booot from the FW harddisk and access the files from there too.

There was a third-party utility, that was very popular a few years back, and provide file security like that. But, I believe that disabling extensions and inits would thwart it.
