The impossible drive issue
I formatted a drive (Maxtor 4 gig on an amd 500) and was going for a fresh install of xp when I got stuck. For some reason I am getting serious drive issues.

I started getting the IRQL_Not_Less_or_Equal blue screen along with other variations . I proceeded to:
• Fdsik and format
• Fix the main boot record
• Run most of the chkdsk and recovery programs
• Copy the ntldr and the ntdectect to the main drive
• I even went as far as to Low level format and repeat the steps

The drive will work but always freeze and go to a blue screen basically telling me the drive isn’t there

They only thing that has given me any progress is switching off the drive caching features in the BIOS but the install takes 8 times longer and will freeze for 30 min on end. I am really stumped here and I have no idea what more to do. Any help?
