Quicken data backup windows 3.1
I am trying to help someone back up data from her Windows 3.1 PC. She has an old version of Quicken and needs to back up a couple of years of financial information. I think the best way to do this would be to create the backup of Quicken on the Windows 3.1 PC . I am guessing that Quicken has a way to compress the data into some sort of database file, then use my broadband Internet connection on her Windows 3.1 PC to upload the file to a free upload storage site, then download it to my PC and create a CD.
Is there an easier way. I think she may not actually have a network card. it might be necessary to reinstall my windows NT PC and connect her drive to that as a slave. If the file formats are different will it work? I would use my Dell XP PC but the drives slide in and I wouldn't know how to connect it.
The windows 3.1 PC is still operational, she just upgraded to a much better laptop with Windows XP.
Is there a CD burner that works on a windows 3.1 machine? I probably don't wan to invest money in it even if there is for this one problem.
What's the most efficient cost effective way?
Thanks for the advice!!

The best way to move to a newer version of both Quicken and Windows, is to create a Quicken QDATA backup file. You should be able to do this in the old version of Quicken under Windows 3.1. The function should exist under the FILE pulldown menu. There should be a Backup Button. When selected it should ask you to where you want to write the backup file. Tell it the A: drive ie: floppy. The bigger question is will your friends newer version of Quicken under WIN XP be able to accept that backup file (Since its so old). You may want to check the Quicken Web site for this info. Now I know alot of newer laptops (Including mine) didn't come with a diskette drive. But for less than $30 you should be able to find a USB diskette drive. If not then uploading and downloading from the net may be necessary.

Hopefully the Quicken Win 3.1 file format would be read by the version running under XP... a couple of years ago I was pleased to find that Quicken 2002 imported my Quicken 7 (DOS) data files just fine... and I had about 8 years' worth of data riding on the matter!
