mac vs. pc gaming
hi,

i'm doing research and was wondering how macs and pcs compare in regards to gaming. what implications, if any, do the different operating systems have on the way the machines run games? what differences are there in pcs and macs besides the OS's that might have an effect on gaming? are macs as upgradeable as pcs? any of this information would be appreciated! thanks

The biggest difference is that there are a lot more games for the pc. Games and internet are the reason why I also bought a pc.
Yes, you can upgrade a mac just as much as a pc.

true there are more games out for pc than for the mac. but that is only if you are simply looking at quantity. most of the games out for pc which aren't out for mac are the smaller lesser known titles that odds are you wouldn't play on a pc anyway. many of the big name titles are out for mac as well as pc and ports from pc to mac are picking up both in timeliness and quantity.

regarding the upgrading: macs are just as upgradable as pcs. but with a sidenote. components such as graphics cards are more exclusive to the mac, there aren't as many to choose from.

if you are buying a computer exclusively for games then i wouldn't suggest a macintosh. pc's are cheaper in terms of raw gaming power. i personally have both a macintosh and a pc. the macintosh i use everyday both for gaming, video editing, word processing, web surfing, etc. the pc i hardly touch and am about to give to my high-school age brother (until he saves up enough to buy his mac). i like the macintosh OS X much better than windows. i like the versatility and "feel" of my powerbook. i can see no point in my future where i would wish to switch back to pc's. i advise everyone who asks me to try out the mac side of the computing world. it offers such advantages and is incredibly rewarding. having said all that, however, if you are simply looking for games then don't get the mac.

Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator (best game there is, IMHO) is not available for mac. I've not seen the Tiger Woods Golf Game for mac either. I've also not seen the Delta Force game for mac. They may have them too, but I've not seen them.

I've been with macs for 10 yrs. now. Recently bought a custom built pc. I think everyone should have both. I'm just the opposite about the OS. I like XP much better than OSX. To me, OS 9.x was the last GOOD OS Apple made. OSX was a complete change from the user friendly Mac OS, to a much harder OS to work with. Not as easy to find and correct problems.

I'm ONLY using the pc for now. Trying to learn the ins and outs of it. Like when I want to learn to fish a new lure......... I take ONLY that lure with me, when I go fishing. If it's all you have with you, you'll learn it. Same with my pc. I'm learning it pretty good, for what I like to do..............
