bios battery may be dieing
my iMac has similar boot problem-I disconnected AC power to iMac while I was away this weekend. The iMac booted fine but the date/time was wrong, which is a clue to possible flaky battery.

check out
- www.MacBattery.com
- www.latext.com/pm/comments/37_0_1_0_C/ a good site I'll use to swap my iMac battery
