corrupt .dmg files
When another person from our company set up my Mac G4 about a year ago, he inadvertently created a .dmg file on my desktop. He tried to get rid of the file but said he couldn't, so he just told me to put it aside and not worry about it. Is there a way I can get rid of this file? I've tried all the usual steps, and it always says it's being used by another task when I try to drag it into the trash.

Will it let you put it in the trash at all? Or does it make it stay on the desktop? If it will let you put it in the trash, put it there and reboot. Once rebooted, try to empty trash then. This has worked for me before with other file types, when it said something else was using it.
If that doesn't work, try renaming it, and then do above suggestion again.
Sorry if neither works...........
